I used McAfee AV Plus products for years, and when I saw the $40 price for Total Protection 2010, I upgraded to that product. The first machine I installed it on has a 2.7GHz Pentium 4 single processor with 1GB RAM and is running under XP Professional SP3. The computer appeared to lose about half its processing power once Total Protection was installed, and that's in comparison to running with McAfee AV Plus 2009. I couldn't stand the perfomance hit, so I purged all McAfee SW off the computer and went to the Microsoft Security Essentials, which was a free package and apparently works well. Barring a miraculous improvement in the performance hit when running Total Protection, I will not my subscription to McAfee when it expires later this year.
